Gilbert was one of the last great illustrators and designers of the golden age of advertising. He joined the legendary J.Walter Thompson after qualifying at Goldsmith's College, London, and contributed to some of the most high profile ad campaigns of the 20C. Throughout his career, he also painted his own work and independent commissions.
