Malone's work is influenced by Shoji Hamada, who likened his own ceramics to 'the tree growing on the mountainside', where it is in tune with nature and growing freely.

Malone set up a studio in Wales and then Cumbria, focusing on the essential values of life, 'to communicate beauty through pottery form'.
