A Lake's Cornish Pottery earthenware vase

With glazed interior and matt exterior, constructed as a coil pot. With wrythen handles.

Stamped inside the rim: LAKES CORNISH POTTERY TRURO.

W.H.Lake founded their pottery in Cornwall in 1872, on a site that was home to potteries going back to medieval times. The eminent potter Bernard Leach spent much time with his apprentices visiting Lake's to learn the skills of Pascoe and Venn: the first the thrower, the second pulling the handles. The pottery was destroyed by fire in the early 1900s.
