The cuboid body decorated with etched abstract motifs reminiscent of the work of his contemporary Kazimir Malevich (1879 - 1935).

Signed and dated.

France, 1939

Riecke was Russian-born but worked most of his professional life in France. Between 1930 and 1937, Riecke was responsible for the Art Deco glass decoration of the La Coupole restaurant in Paris. This vase, made shortly after that period, sees a departure in Riecke's work, away from the frivolity of the glass made for the restaurant, and closer to the work of his Russian compatriots like Malevich.
