Each panel decorated with roses and foliage among a celtic lattice motif. All four conserved and mounted on upholstered frames.
Glasgow, circa 1907
These painted canvases were once part of the interior scheme of 'The Arcadian Gallery' at 132 St Vincent Street, Glasgow, a venue closely associated with the Glasgow Style movement. They were carried out by members of the Scottish Guild of Handicraft, probably to a design by Henry T. Wyse. They were most likely originally part of a continuous frieze.
Established in 1907 by Henry T. Wyse and A.J.H. Moffat, the gallery combined a vegetarian restaurant with continuous exhibitions of pictures by contemporary artists. Wyse oversaw all the interior design.
The Arcadian Gallery underwent a redevelopment in the 1950s and this fabric was removed and sold privately.
