The drop-leaf top in a wonderfully coloured figured oak with a carved border opening to an oval shape, supported by fielded trestle ends.

This gate-leg table was the last piece of domestic furniture designed by Ambrose Heal. Given as a wedding gift alongside an en suite dresser to his son Anthony in 1941, it embodies the ideals of the Arts & Crafts movement - a simple, understated, functional piece of lasting furniture designed for a young couple setting up home.
