The high spindle-turned back above a rush seat flanked by low arms on four turned legs joined by stretchers and resting on shallow rockers.

The faux bamboo style was a popular manifestation of the fashion for chinoiserie in the Regency period. Wood was turned or carved to mimic the appearance of bamboo - a material associated with the East but not always readily available.
