5910
The oval plate set into a red-japanned and parcel gilt moulded frame with reserves inlaid with mother of pearl. Surmounted by a carved and gilded bow with an ebonised central reserve with mother of pearl inlay.
Venice, circa 1750s
This Venetian mirror is an example of the fascination for the products of the East, made possible through Venice's vast trade networks. Venetian workshops produced mirrors decorated in black or red lacca, imitating oriental lacquer, often embellished with mother of pearl inlay between the late‑17th and mid‑18th centuries.
