Milanese architect and furniture designer, Paolo Buffa is recognised as one of Italy's foremost 20th century designers.
At the start of his career he worked briefly for the architect Gio Ponti, before striking out on his own and producing everything from country houses and civic buildings to carpets, lighting and an espresso machine.
The furniture within his buildings was made to his specifications and produced most prominently by Mario Quarti, renowned for his fine craftsmanship. His clients were the rich and famous around the globe. On the eve of World War II, the King of Albania commissioned him to decorate the palace in Tirana; in 1951, King Farouk of Egypt hired him to remodel his yacht. His designs were unerringly suave, sophisticated and original.
